Does Coconut Oil Treat Acne?
Amidst various other things, coconut oil is also being considered as an important cure for acne. But isn't acne prone skin already oily? So, how can an oily substance like coconut oil treat acne? Well, let us find out.

To understand how coconut oil affects acne, you need to first know how acne is caused. Our skin contains countless sebaceous glands that are present under the skin surface. These sebaceous glands secrete sebum or oil that keeps your skin moist. However, at times these sebaceous glands secrete excessive sebum due to various internal factors.

This excessive sebum then clogs the skin pores. Along with sebum, several dirt particles, impurities and other contaminants also get clogged inside the skin pores. These clogged pore then creates favorable conditions for the acne causing organisms to grow. Hence, acne is formed.

Coconut oil helps treat acne by destroying these acne causing organisms. Coconut oil contains two of the most powerful antimicrobial ingredients namely Capric Acid and Lauric acid. When coconut oil is applied on the skin, the skin friendly bacteria turn these acids into Monocaprin and Monolaurin. These chemical substances destroy the acne causing bacteria and help treat acne.

Further on, coconut oil is an excellent source of Vitamin E. Vitamin E is one of the most important vitamins that are needed for healthy and acne free skin. This skin friendly vitamin clears up clogged skin pores and deals with the root cause of acne. Further on, vitamin E also controls the secretion of sebum and keeps your skin shine free.

Unlike several other acne fighting substances that are not able to reach the deeper layers of your skin, coconut oil penetrates into your skin rather quickly. It reaches the deeper layers of the skin providing immediate results. Application of coconut oil externally will result in immediate reduction in inflammation and itching. Regular use of coconut oil also helps reduce the appearance of scars, blemishes and spots.

You can use coconut oil both- externally and internally. Consuming two spoonfuls of coconut oil should help you fight the problem. You could even use coconut oil for cooking purposes.

So, this brings us to the conclusion that coconut oil is an effective cure to acne. Well, partially yes and partially no. Yes because it does have effect as an acne treatment and no because it may not work every time, especially if you are dealing with severe acne.

It is for this reason that considering effective OTC anti acne products would be a good choice, the Zenmed Derma Cleanse System is a highly recommended option. The product is a three step acne treatment and works even on severe acne cases.

But, if you still want to use coconut oil, you could use it as a part of your acne treatment and not rely on it solely.
