Prescription Topical Drugs Antibiotic Lotions- helps to reduce the inflammation and slow down the growth of bacteria. They are applied directly to the skin and therefore the effects are quite fast. Azelaic Acid– It can be used in place of Benzoyl Peroxide. The side effects are milder compared to that of Benzoyl Peroxide. Ablative - This is the stronger of the two and removes the outer layer to promote the growth of collagen Non-ablative – This treatment works deep inside the skin and promotes collagen formation there. This method is riskier than the former. Dietary Changes Unbalanced diet is another reason that causes acne. Changes in diet can greatly help in reducing the severity of acne. Unlike medicines, a healthy diet helps in treating acne without any side effects. Even though the results may be slower as compared to the topical drugs but they will be longer lasting. Avoid junk food and eat a high fiber diet. Avoid milk and dairy products. If not possible then consume in moderation. Avoid eating oily food or spicy food as it promotes acne.
