Cosmetics for acne removal The market is full of many types of over-the-counter acne treatment cosmetic products. While not all of them may be effective, there are some time-tested acne fighting products based on salicylic acid that you can try out. Salicylic-based foundations and moisturizers are available in abundance. You can try out these easy to use cosmetic products and see your acne reduce. For adults, specific, non-drying formulations are available. Also, many of these products contain anti-aging ingredients that can help you arrest your growing age as well. A word of caution- though all this may sound promising the results may vary from case to case. Topical Therapy Topical acne treatment is based upon the use of gels, creams, solutions, and lotions. For the purpose of adult acne treatment, a combination of benzoyl peroxide and an antimicrobial such as clindamycin or erythromycin is considered to be effective. Also, one can opt for a combination of clindamycin with a retinoid. Despite their effectiveness, users tend to stay away from such topical medications due to their tendency to induce skin irritation. However, new formulations which are being developed are trying to address this concern. Also, the use of supplementary cosmetics (like sunscreen along with the application of a retinoid) is also advised by dermatologists to minimize the damaging effects of topical medications. Medications Administered Orally It is generally the case that there are hormonal swings in case of adult acne. To control such imbalances, oral medication may become necessary. For adult women, oral contraceptive pills, spironolactone, and hormone replacement therapy can be used in order to control hormonal imbalances. However, they are not meant for all women. Neither can pregnant women take such medications. Prescription is also administered according to the age in which the women are. In order to control adult acne, oral antibiotics can also be used. Along with a topical retinoid, the use of an antibiotic for some months and then stopping it can be effective. After that, the retinoid can maintain the result all by itself. However, when acne is severe or not responding to treatment, then the dermatologist may prescribe oral isotretinoin. Related Articles |
