Don't get swayed by the marketing strategies and the wonderful packaging. Do remember to look for the acne fighting ingredients like Salicylic Acid, Tea Tree Oil, Jojoba Oil, and Benzoyl Peroxide. Glycerin is always welcomed as an add-on in the ingredient list of non-over drying cleansers. Cleansers that are gentle in nature and do not cause over drying can be considered.

Say no to
* Sodium Lauryl Sulfate- It is the biggest offender because it strips the skin and introduces irritation, by damaging the skin's protective barrier.
* Dyes or colorants- If the ingredient list mentions any dyes or colorants, don't opt for that product because they can further aggravate you're the acne prone skin.
* Artificial fragrances- All that smells good is not always good. The added fragrances tend to irritate your skin and contribute in further aggravation of your acne.
* Scrubbers- The last action required by inflammatory acne is scrubbing because it irritates the skin. Scrubbing should be avoided at any cost unless your acnes are non-inflammatory ones or you have only blackheads. So, check the cleanser for any scrubbing ingredients.
* Sodium Laureth Sulfate-  It is the last thing to be used for cleansing facial skin because it is a very harsh chemical that can worsen the condition of your acne.
* Ingredients which are irritating and cosmedogenic and those like Isopropyl Palpitate and Myristate should also be avoided.

Piece of advice for men
Men should try using a cleanser's lather for shaving rather than the regular shaving cream. Though, one can choose from foaming liquid cleanser or gentle bar as per one's needs as well as suitability to their skin type, men can use pliable natural soaps to fight acne prone skin.

Piece of advice for women
Always prefer liquid over bar for cleansing unless and until you have an extremely tight budget. Though there are certain options available which can be used for all skin types, you should be particular about choosing one meant particularly for your skin type, for better results.
