Is mineral oil bad for acne prone skin? The question
still remains a puzzle for everyone. Well, there are certainly some
ingredients in various products which are injurious to your acne prone
skin. Some products or cosmetic products are bad for your skin due to
the availability of some ingredients which make your acne prone skin
worse. But, how they go wrong and what preventive measures should be
taken to avoid the situation. One such, much blamed ingredient is the
mineral oil. Although, it is the safest and least reactive ingredient in
the world in its purest form but often not used in skin care products
because of much bad and wrong information among both esthecians and
clients.
But, certainly mineral oil is not an
appropriate choice for using on a very oily or acne prone skin that does
not need any more emollient as excess of mineral oil can be harmful. The
good thing about mineral oil is that it does not clog pores, in fact, it
decreases inflammation in acne patients but the products containing this
ingredient are actually too oily for clients. According to some people,
mineral oil found in Vaseline and or any other kind of petroleum jelly
worsen the acne leading of severe pimples on the face. The truth
according to few people are that mineral oil can have adverse effect on
acne skin care. It would not help in treating acne instead, would
definitely worsen it by making your skin more oily. So, use only mineral
oil free cosmetic and beauty products to have an acne free skin.
However,
the reputation of mineral oil not good for your acne prone skin is not
true as only industrial oil used in the beauty products are harmful and
not the beauty oil used in them. It has been found that industrial oil
may be comedogenic, leading to cause blackheads and whiteheads but
cosmetic grade mineral oil is not comedogenic in nature.
Therefore,
consumers when buying the skin care products should look for those who
claim to be non-comedogenic and not ''mineral oil free''. In case you don't want mineral oil in your products then go for those containing
silicones as emollients and hydrators like dimethicone and glycerin.
This would also help you after your acne treatment by preventing your
skin from being oily. So, before using mineral oil, you are advised to
know the answer of much talked about question- is mineral oil bad for
acne prone skin?
