The people who have had acne during any phase of their life can still remember the pain they have gone through. The bitter memories remind them of the humiliating and embarrassing state suffered by them. If you are on the verge of getting acne or are already suffering from it, here are some do's and don'ts to make things easier for you.

Dos
1) Keep your skin clean. Never go to bed without washing your face, at least. Sleep is the best time for the skin to heal.
2) Drink plenty of water.
3) Remove your makeup before you go to sleep.
4) Avoid direct sunlight.
5) Use an oil-free sunscreen while going out.
6) Avoid direct heat. It could worsen your acne.
7) Avoid pollution and humidity as much as possible.
8) Wear loose clothes so as to avoid their rubbing against the skin.
9) Avoid contact with headbands, helmet straps and other such things to minimize friction.
10) Use cosmetics which have a water base. But try to use minimum makeup.
11) Wash your face twice daily but don't overdo it. Over-washing can rid your skin of essential oils.

Don’ts
1) Don't use harsh soaps to wash your face. Mild ones are the best recommended.
2) Don't sleep with your face placed on the pillow. It invites dust particles to settle down on the skin.
3) Don't pick, pop or squeeze your pimples.
4) Don't use moisturizers or creams which have an oil base.
5) Don't use facial scrubs on the affected area.
6) Don't eat too much of oily, fried and fatty foods.
7) Don't try to remove your pimples yourself, consult a dermatologist.
8) Males should avoid shaving for as long as possible and should use a new blade every time they shave.

Although there are a lot of treatments present to treat acne but by following these do's and don'ts, the problem can at least be minimized and at times, even avoided.
