Does Sugar Cause Acne?

While studies state that food has nothing to do with your acne condition, there are some foods that cause an acne flare up. And sugar is one of them. There are some that even claim that sugar is the cause of their acne. Let us study the relationship between sugar and acne and see if it could be the cause of your acne too.

Though most foods that contain simple carbohydrates spike up your blood sugar levels, sugar does it like no other. Whenever you consume sugar, your blood sugar levels rise rapidly. This sudden upsurge of sugar levels in body causes the body to secrete various hormones which includes insulin and various other androgenic hormones.

It must be noted that the androgenic hormones in the body are the ones that activate the sebaceous glands and makes them produce more sebum than the usual. This excessive sebum is unable to reach the surface of the skin and gets clogged within the pores of the skin. As a result, acne is formed.

So does this mean that sugar is the cause of acne? well, it is but not for every individual. there are some individuals who may experience am acne flare up on consuming the slightest amount of sugar. while there are others who consume as much sugar as they want to and still have flawless skin.

This is because of the simple fact that some people have a stronger body system to ingest the consumed sugar as compared to others. It is primarily the liver that offsets the hormonal activity and clears off unwanted hormones from the system. people who have efficient live function are able to eat sugar and still steer clear of acne. however, those who have a week or ineffeciecnt liver function sufer from acne on consuming sugar.

So if you want to consume sugar and still keep away from acne, then it is important that you revitalize and strengthen your liver function in the first place. If your liver function remains ineffective, you are bound to suffer from an acne breakout even on consuming simple natural sugars such as honey, maple syrup and the like.

Acne sufferers who have a sweet tooth will find it difficult to stay away from sweet some things even if they know it can aggravate their skin condition even further. But you can always switch to low sugar items to satisfy your sweet cravings. Have fresh fruits or go in for low calorie sweeteners if you are suffering form acne.

But considering that sugar could make your acne even worse, it is in your best interest to avoid the same.
