Many parents will be horrified to hear this, but it is true that babies also can have Acne. This type of acne is commonly referred to as baby acne. It can be present during birth, or can develop after around three weeks, this condition may persist  until the baby is five to six months old. Baby acne can occur on the chin, forehead and even on the back sometimes.

Studies have revealed that baby acne occurs due to hormones passed during the time of birth through the placenta. Doctors say that there are many other factors linked to the cause of acne, but research to find it is still going on. Another interesting fact is that male infants are more prone to baby acne than females.

Baby acne appears in the form of small whiteheads or also may appear as bumps  surrounded by a reddish skin. Interesting thing to note here is that they become more prominent when the child is angry or irritated by something.

Now, let us shift our discussion towards the preventive measures: Never try to wash your baby's face or body with any harsh detergent or rough cloth as this may cause injury to the affected areas. Do not use any kind of oil or over- the -counter medications. Always use a mild baby soap. Do not as far as possible try to irritate or make him angry as this will aggravate his condition.

Also, sometimes it is best to leave the acne to itself as in many cases it has been seen that it disappears itself. But we must be careful to see whether it is a minor allergy or acne and even if it is an allergy we should get rid of it.

Lastly, it is always the best idea to get help from a good pediatrician even for a minor allergy.
