In fact moles are spots on the skin where melanocytes which are the pigment producing cells have produced more melanin, darkening a localized area of epidermis. Moles usually look like freckles and are flat, tan and pink or brown. They normally darken with exposure to the sun, with birth control pills, during puberty and during pregnancy. They are a combination of oils, sebum and cellular fragments which produce firm and hard plugs within hair follicles. Blackheads are the same as whitehead and are a general term for acne only.
