Many acne sufferers try to find cure from acne by resorting to medical treatments. As acne is a widespread skin problem, there are a few standard and well-tried out cures for acne treatment. These treatments are effective in all common types of acne, like whiteheads, blackheads, pimples and cystic lesions.

The basis for any medical treatment for acne is the idea to unplug clogged pores that lead to acne on the skin surface. The unplugging process for effective acne medication must be followed by medication that will keep the pores unplugged or else the oily condition of the skin will lead to a fresh outbreak of acne on the surface of the skin. Sometimes the acne condition becomes so serious that it leads to painful sores and pimples forming on the skin and the acne gets infected by bacteria. In that case the acne medication will have to include antibiotics in the acne medication process.

The basic attempt at acne medication is thus a process of stopping the acne from breaking out and then taking a course of acne medication that will prevent a fresh outbreak of acne, in the future. This two-pronged acne medication approach includes the stopping of oils forming in excess on the skin and this can be successfully done by slowing down and reducing the hormones that produce acne.

Having realized the primary problem that besets the acne sufferer, the medication for acne is oriented to this effect by using a few common medication products. It is best to choose creams lotions that contain benzoyl and salicylic acid as the medicating effects of such products is known to be highly effective for cases of acne where the skin looks reddish but is not inflamed.

To treat bacteria infected acne the best option is the use of oral antibiotics are often prescribed for medication. These are isotretinoin and topical retinoid medication. But all cases of acne medication carry with them a lurking danger of side effects. These can range from mild ones like yeast infections in women to loose motions. But the use of isotretinoin can lead to drug resistance as the long and continuous use of drugs and antibiotics can lead to drug resistance.

This condition can harm acne medication and would require the assistance of a medical practitioner to treat acne condition. Thus acne medication, though an effective way of controlling and even curing acne has to be taken with due caution and proper medication measures.
