Birth Control Pills-An Unconventional Treatment for Acne |
|
The Birth control pill is a popular way of acne treatment. In some cases of stubborn acne, no available medicine seems to works. In such cases, birth control pills can help to solve the problem. If you have tried all sorts of solutions to treat your acne, and nothing seems to work, it is time you tried using birth control pills. It is an easily available solution, and it works. Let us see how.
The acne problem usually starts from the pre-teens or teen age years. The body increases the secretion of sebum during the teens. Sebum is secreted by the sebaceous glands which are under the hair follicles. If the pores of the skin are clogged, the released sebum will combine with the dead skin cells to create acne.
This occurs basically due to excessive male hormones. Birth control pills put a leash on the production of these hormones by preventing the ovaries from producing the same. The decrease in the amount of male hormones can help in the healing of acne.
There are two types of male hormones in the body, i.e. testosterone and androgen. When the female hormones estrogen and progestin form an unbalanced combination with these male hormones, it leads to acne and other related skin problems. Hence, when you take recourse to birth control pills, you do so with the ostensible hope that the balance of hormones is maintained.
However, you should always keep in mind that birth control pills do not permanently solve acne-related problems. Many women complain that acne remains under control as long as they take the pills. When they stop doing so, acne reoccurs, and in most cases is worse than before.
There is another thing to take note of. You will do better not to use birth control pills to cure acne unless recommended by a doctor. Always remember that birth control pills are not the natural way to treat acne. They should be taken recourse to only when all other conventional treatments have been tried.
