Cystic Acne: Treatments And Harmful Effects |
|
Cystic acne is a severe form of acne. It
develops due to the overproduction of sebum and keratin, thin strands of
hair in the follicle, and bacteria in the skin. The hormone androgen is
responsible for the production of excess oil and thereby is the reason
behind cystic acne.
Nodules or cysts, in
general, mean the blockage of the oil glands. These are ugly red lesions
that can burst open and produce foul smelling substance. You should
treat cystic acne as soon as possible as it can cause permanent
scarring. It can also recur on the same spot in the same area if you do
not follow the proper method of treating them.
The various
treatments that can be used for curing cystic acne are as follows.
Although it takes time to cure cystic acne, these treatments can show
you the desirable results:
1) Benzoyl peroxide is very useful for treating 'not so
severe' cystic acne. However, it is not very useful in treating severe
cystic acne. It is also not suitable for people who have dry
skin.
2) For severe form of cystic acne, the oral drug, isotretinoin
is used. It is credited with cleaning up severe cystic acne forever. It is a very powerful drug and therefore should not be used without a
prescription. It should also not be used by pregnant women as it can create complications for the unborn baby. The people who are suffering
from depression are also advised to not use this drug as it can lead to more depression.
3) Another treatment for curing cystic acne is intralesional
corticosteroid therapy. It is a rather painless procedure
where each cyst is given an individual injection to dilute it. It
provides fast relief from painful inflammations.
Another treatment for cystic acne is the acne surgery.
This is a useful process for clearing acne. However, it should be done
in the supervision of a dermatologist as the bacteria present can
infect the area and can lead to larger inflammation.
There are different forms of treatments available for different forms of
acne. But, be careful about the disadvantages of the methods, so that
you may not end up with more inflammations and bumps.
