Baby acne is a common condition found in the newborns at
the time of birth or which may appear within three to four weeks of birth.
Baby acne appears in the form of whiteheads, blackheads or pustules. It
affects up to 20 % of all newborns.
A baby can not be
provided the treatments that are given to the adults. Babies have very
sensitive skin, therefore adult acne products are not safe for them. A
baby's skin can get easily irritated and lead to further aggravation of
the problem. It is a condition which usually needs no treatments. When
left undisturbed, baby acne resolves on its own.
When a baby cries and/or
the baby become hot and fussy, the acne becomes more prominent. Baby acne
does not leave any scars and the treatments are required just to reduce
irritation and itching. When your baby is suffering from baby acne, the
different types of oils and lotions are not recommended.
These products
may irritate his/her sensitive skin even more. As baby acne is not caused
by dirt and oil, you should refrain from scrubbing. Instead, you can use
mild baby soap to wash the baby's face in a week.
Hydrocortisone cream or ionic colloidal silver solution is a very good acne treatment. It kills
the acne causing bacteria and is very effective. Only in some rare cases,
dermatologists recommend some OTC products such as benzoyl peroxide or
sometimes even a prescription medication to cure baby acne. However, the
best treatment for baby acne is to have patience and let it resolve on its
own. It does not need any treatment at all.
