Hectic lifestyles, poor diets, increased use of cosmetics, pollution etc are some factors that have made acne a common skin condition. Whilst acne can be difficult to deal with, the good part is that there are various acne treatment options available to the acne sufferer. Amidst various other acne treatment options, vitamin B5 is being touted as one of the most effective solutions for acne.

Various studies and researches reveal that Vitamin B5 or pantothenic acid can work as an effective cure to acne. These studies also state that the lack of vitamin B5 can also contribute to acne development. This is based on the findings that majority of acne sufferers were found to have a diet low in Vitamin B complex.

The vitamin B5 acne theory is based on the premise that a high fat diet is responsible for an acne breakout. High fat diets do not cause any problem as long as they are utilized properly with appropriate physical exercise. However, the real problem occurs when this fat is not digested or utilized properly. If the fat is not metabolized in the right manner, it leads to an acne breakout.

To metabolize the fats consumed, your body needs coenzyme A. This coenzyme A is formed as a result of synthesis of adenosine triphosphate, cysteine and Vitamin B5. Lack of vitamin B5 in the body implies a lack of coenzyme A. The deficiency of coenzyme A in turn means that the fats consumed by the body are not metabolized properly causing an acne breakout.

Yet another factor that makes Vitamin B5 work as an acne treatment is that it regulates the level of sebum production in the body. It must be noted that it is excessive production of sebum that clogs the skin pores and causes acne. Vitamin B5 or pantothenic acid works on this root cause of acne and thus helps treat acne.

If you want to use Vitamin B5 to treat acne then you must eat foods that are rich in vitamin B5. Some of the foods that are good sources of vitamin B5 include liver, yeast, eggs, mushrooms, yogurt and several others. Alternatively, you can also use vitamin B5 supplements available in the market.

Vitamin B5 can prove to be helpful to treat acne, but it may not offer the desired results in all the cases. If you are dealing with a more severe form of acne such as nodular acne or cystic acne then Vitamin B5 may not prove to be of much help.  Another downside to vitamin B5 acne treatment is that it can cause certain side effects such as fatigue, nausea and low energy.

The bottom line is that Vitamin B5 cannot be considered as a sure shot cure to acne. Thus, it is recommended that you use a professional acne treatment solution along with using vitamin B5.
