Suffering from adult acne could be a big
problem for you during pregnancy. It can affect your psychological and

But, what causes adult
acne during pregnancy? Acne during pregnancy is the result of hormonal
changes. Hormones during the first three months of pregnancy increase a
lot. The particular hormone progesterone increases the secretions of the
substance sebum in your skin glands which can lead to adult acne.
Adult acne drugs which are usually used should not be given to
pregnant women or those who are expecting to get pregnant. These potent

Tetracycline antibiotics used for treating acne are harmful as they
can damage the teeth and bones of the unborn baby.

3) Topical retinoids such as tretinoin, adapalene, tazarotene and alike
are harmful during pregnancy. Such drugs get absorbed in the
bloodstream
and can cause damage to the unborn baby.
4) Hormonal therapy using the hormone (female) estrogen or the
anti-androgens, spironolactone should not be used during pregnancy as
they are harmful.
Retinoids which are Vitamin A derivatives, whether synthetic or
natural should also be avoided during pregnancy.
It is always better to use natural products to treat adult acne during
pregnancy. Tea tree oil, peppermint facial wash can be used. Bentonite
clay or the seaweed clay are also safe also some of the safe options
which can be used during pregnancy.
A pregnant woman should
always consult a dermatologist before going for any acne treatment.
Remember, pregnancy is a state which needs special attention and medical
