Acne is not just restricted to the face. It can attack your arms, chest, legs and other body parts as well. While acne can attack other parts of the body, it is the back that is the most affected. But, what exactly causes back acne? Back is one area where you sweat a lot. Also, back is slightly difficult to clean, which causes accumulation of dirt. This in turn, leads to the development of back acne. But, dirt and sweat alone are not the cause of acne on your back.

The cause of back acne is similar to that of facial acne. Back acne too is caused due to the clogging of skin pores. Some times, the sebaceous glands present under the skin surface become overactive and begin to secrete excessive sebum. This sebum attracts dirt, debris and other impurities.

Further on, people who are prone to skin problems like acne tend to overproduce skin cells inside the skin pores. This further leads to clogging of skin pores. Excessive sebum along with dead skin, impurities, multiple skin cells, dirt and other impurities block the skin pores completely. This clogged pore serves as the perfect breeding ground for acne causing organisms known as P acne. A clogged pore gives birth to a pimple or a zit on the back.

While it is clogging of skin pores that primarily causes acne on the back, there are other factors as well that could trigger bacne. Here are some of them.

* There are many people who prefer to apply various packs on the back. These packs are quite similar to facial packs and masks. Constant use of these packs could be a cause of back acne. In some cases, the residue of these packs may be left behind, which could lead to the clogging of skin pores and consecutively acne.
* Wearing extremely tight fitting clothing is another factor that triggers the problem. Clothes that are extremely tight do not allow the skin to breathe and trap moisture. This stimulates the growth of causative organisms resulting in pimples and zits.
*  A rough back massage could also be the potential cause of back acne in some people. Though a massage is generally good for the skin, it can do more bad than good if it is rough. Rough massages irritate the skin which can lead to skin problems such as acne.
* Carrying backpacks for long duration can also lead to acne on the back. This is because backpacks keep on rubbing against your back, causing skin irritation. So, if you are nursing back acne, it is advised that you carry some other bag like a shoulder bag or a tote.

There are several causes of back acne that cannot be controlled. But, there are some factors like unwanted skin irritation that you can keep a tab on. Keep a check on the factors that you can control and you will be able to avoid the development of back acne successfully.
