A Complete Overview On Pustules |
|
Blackheads, whiteheads, zits, pimples, cysts…etc are different forms of acne. Yet another type of acne is pustules. Pustules are a moderate acne form that looks similar to a whitehead. This type of acne is pus filled and may be painful. A pustule is characterized by red circle with a yellow center. In some cases, pustules may leave behind permanent scarring. It is advised that you avoid touching, popping or squeezing them.
Causes
Like other acne forms, pustules too are caused by clogging skin pores. But, the only difference is that this acne form involves white blood cells also. When excessive sebum along with dirt, debris and other impurities get clogged in a skin pore, the pore serves as the perfect breeding ground for causative organisms.
To fight these microorganisms also known as P acnes, the body introduces white blood cells. But, sometimes white blood cells are unable to fight the problem and pile up in the clogged pore. This results in the formation of pus in the pore. It is for this reason that pustules are pus filled.
Treatment

Amidst topical antibiotics, Clindamycin, Erythromycin and Tetracycline are some of the most popularly used ones. Minocycline and Doxycycline are some of the commonly used oral antibiotics to treat acne. However, these antibiotics may have side effects and should be used only under the prescription of a doctor.
