Isotretinoin
This is one of the best medications for severe acne. Isotretinoin is a prescription medication and is available under the brand name of accutane. However, this medicine can have serious side effects. So make sure that you consider the pros and cons of this medicine well before you use it.
Glycolic acid or alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) peel
This process is also known as chemical peeling and must be done under the supervision of a dermatologist. The chemicals used in these peels cause the skin to peel off and blister. This allows new and undamaged skin to come through.
Cortisone injection
Cortisone injection is used to treat acne nodules only if you have one or tow nodules. This injection is inserted directly into the nodule. The injection destroys the acne causing bacteria and also promotes treatment of the lesion. A cortisone injection should be only administered by a dermatologist.
Surgical draining
This is a minor surgical procedure that involves draining of the pus and the bacteria filled inside the nodules. The nodules are cut open and allowed to drain. The remaining lesion is left to heal on its own and it heals within a few days.
