Nicotinamide


Nicotinamide is a water-soluble component of the vitamin B complex group. It has demonstrated anti-inflammatory actions which benefit the patients who have inflammatory acne vulgaris. I give this product a four star rating.

Nicotinamide is known for its ability to block the inflammatory actions of iodides known to precipitate or exacerbate inflammatory acne. The ingredients of the product are Zinc Oxide, Cupric Oxide and Folic Acid among others. Zinc has been shown to inhibit the inflammatory polymorphonuclear leukocyte chemotaxis in acne patients.

Patients with inflammatory acne have been shown to have significantly lower serum zinc levels than matched healthy controls. Copper is an essential trace mineral in human nutrition. Deficiencies of folic acid have been demonstrated to occur in some cutaneous inflammatory disorders.

Proper care should be taken in using this medicine. Though this medicine is not useful in reducing acne, it does seem to reduce the redness and the size of the spots. It can have quite a drying effect.
