As a teenager, you too would have dealt with an ugly pimple or zit at some or the other point in life. Most of us have to bear with this condition. Here are some fast facts about teen acne that can help all deal with the problem in a much better way:

* Most girls experience acne near the age of eleven. A breakout is usually experienced as girls near puberty.
* Acne starts in boys at the age of thirteen.
* Pimples and zits are not caused by oily and greasy food or chocolates. But, if you feel that the acne worsens or aggravates on eating a particular food, you might as well skip the consumption of such foods all together.
* Most teenagers suffer from moderate forms of acne. Pimples, zits, papules and pustules are some examples of moderate acne.
* Almost 85 % of the people living in the US develop acne between 12 to 25 years.
* In several women, acne may worsen just before the periods. This is known as PMS acne.
* Several teens inherit acne from their parents. So, if either of the parents have had acne during their teenage, it is likely that their child too would have the problem.

* Not every teen deals with the same type of acne. Acne can be broadly classified into mild, moderate and severe. While blackheads and whiteheads are mild acne, nodules and cysts are severe forms of the skin problem.
* Quite contrary to what many teens believe, breakouts are not a result of sexual activities of any kind. Masturbation too does not lead to problem skin. Acne is primarily caused as a result of hormonal imbalance.
* There are several skin conditions such as rosacea, keratosis pilaris, perioral dermatitis that look like acne. Make sure that you consult a dermatologist if you are not sure about the problem.
