These may be contributing factors and may also worsen the existing acne condition but acne is caused by hormonal action on sebaceous glands. These glands produce a substance called sebum, which emerges on the skin through the pores. When dirt and dead cells get mixed with oily secretion (sebum), they provide ideal environment for acne bacteria to develop. This causes a blockage in the pores and the pimples develop.
Adolescence is the time when hormonal changes take place in a big way. This makes the occurrence of acne very common during this time of one’s life.
They may also appear as pustules or pimples, which are inflamed, pus-filled lesions. Nodules are a more painful variety of lesions. They are solid, large, hurt very much and are embedded deep in the skin.
Another form that acne takes is that of
cysts. These are painful, lesions filled with pus, lying under the
skin, and are capable of causing scarring and immense pain. Though there is no serious health risk involved with acne, they may leave scars behind. It is true that some people are more prone to acne than others. The exact cause of why some have a larger share of acne problem is not known. However, a possible reason could be different levels of hormonal activity in different people. Another reason could be the genetic make up of an individual. It is possible that some people are genetically prone to acne problem.
Stress is also one of the reasons for acne, and the teenagers who worry a lot see a higher occurrence of acne compared to those who take things relatively easy. Therefore, if you want to lead a life free of acne, eat right, keep stress away and get more active.
