Skipping medications
Many people make the common mistake of skipping their medications. However, this must be strictly avoided if at all you wish to get rid of acne. It is important that you be consistent for it to take over your skin. Make note that you will be able to get rid of acne only once the medication is in full control of your skin. For this, you need to use the medicine on a daily basis. So, do not skip doses of the medication.

Overdose
This is another common acne treatment mistake that you need. Many people tend to use too much of their anti acne medication thinking that this will help clear up acne faster. However, this is not true. Excessive use of any medication can lead to adverse side effects like excessive skin drying, chapping and peeling of skin. To avoid these side effects, make sure that you are using the medications only in the suggested quantity.

Looking for a quick fix
Most acne sufferers are desperate to get rid of problem skin. This is why they end up looking for an overnight solution for acne. However, you need to understand that there is no such quick fix to acne. Your acne did not develop in a day. So, it will not even go in a day. Products that offer you overnight solutions to acne are nothing but scams. So, make sure that you do not fall for such fraudulent deals. Even if you are using the most effective anti acne solution, it  will take time before your acne begins to clear up.

Not using sunscreen
When struggling with acne, using a sunscreen is imperative. The reason for the same being that sunlight can wreck damage to your skin, worsening your breakouts further. Sunlight stimulates your sebaceous glands to produce more sebum, aggravating your acne even further. It is for this reason that you must wear a sunscreen before venturing out in the sun. Opt for a sunscreen with a SPF of 15 or even higher. Also, make note that your sunscreen is non comedogenic and oil free.

Stop using medications when acne is clear
You should not stop using your anti acne products when your skin begins to clear up. Keep using the products to control breakouts. Of course, you may consider downsizing the quantity of products you are using or cut down on the doses.

i wish they came up with an anti acne vaccine too... however, since that's not possible at this moment- i guess I'll have to rely on the OTC stuff.

In my teen days, I always wished for an acne vaccination. Because treating pimples not only calls for right medication but a right set of do's and don'ts too. Tips given here are practical. My pimples are long gone :D , still I use sunscreen and wash my face twice a day. I still use retinoids sometimes.
