Step #1: Clean your skin methodically Use lukewarm water to wash your face. If you have a mild cleanser like Cetaphil, you may use it. Be gentle on your skin. Use disposable rags to pat it dry. Don't use towels or anything that you use twice. This will keep out the bacteria. Step #2: Apply your topical acne treatments and sun protection Apply the topical treatments that you do regularly, and wait a while for them to be absorbed. Then apply a good sunscreen with Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of at least 15. Check whether they protect you from both UVA and UVB rays. Some popular noncomedogenic sunscreens like Estion and CellexC also double up as lightweight moisturizers. These oil-free moisturizers help calm irritated acne skin. Go ahead and use them. Step #3: Apply primer This is optional. Primers help in firming up the skin if it is uneven, dry or flaky. The foundation can be applied well if the skin remains firm. Place a blob of the primer on either sides of the nose and apply by smoothening outwards. Use a lightweight oil-free primer for acne skin. Several good brands are available. Next, apply the concealer directly to the scars and blemishes caused by acne. Use clean fingertips if possible. If not, use a disposable facial sponge. Apply in a gentle dabbing motion. Make a thin layer; don't overdo the concealer. It might turn into an eyesore. You can always apply more if you need it. Leave it on for a while before it sets in. Murad oil-free concealers are good ones to have. Step #5: Apply foundation As with the concealer, apply the foundation sparingly. For acne skin, lesser is better. Pat it lightly like you did with the concealer. Blend it with the facial sponge and apply and reapply wherever you want right. Look up for good noncomedogenic foundations; they usually contain 1-2% of salicylic acid which is partially therapeutic. Sometimes extra amounts of starch, kaolin, and polymers which absorb sebum may be added. Step #6: Apply finishing powder Apply a thin layer of a good powder using a brush. Top up with anything else you wish to apply like blush, eye shadow or lipstick and you're done! A blemish free look depends largely on how well you have applied the concealer, foundation and finishing powder. Do this well and you'll look spotless. Related Articles |
